Legal Day (India): One working day as an associate at an Indian law firm. Real deadlines, real drafting, AI colleagues.
Beta. Legal Day is a training simulation, not legal advice. The law is stated as of October 2026 and has not yet been reviewed by a practising advocate. If you spot an error, email team@bartman.ai with the play and the task.
Legal Day puts you in a Mumbai law firm for one simulated working day, 09:30 to 18:30. The senior partner allocates the matter, the client calls with new facts, opposing counsel sends a notice, the paralegal drops documents in your inbox and a judge asks you pointed questions at a virtual court mention. You run the conflict check, compute limitation and statutory deadlines, draft and redline in a Word editor, research from the firm's library and advise the client. Every matter is generated for your play with issues planted in its documents, so every deadline and every planted clause has a right answer.
One working day, about 3 hours · solo or a team of up to 3 · $10 per practice area, $15 for two, $18 for all three (from ₹981.76 incl. GST) · 6 plays per practice area · adding an area later costs the difference
Practice areas
- Disputes & Litigation: A supplier's unpaid invoices and a bounced cheque: limitation, the NI Act notice chain, pre-institution mediation, the right forum, a vakalatnama to check and a Commercial Court mention.
- Corporate & Commercial: A funded startup signing a vendor's master services agreement: redline the risky clauses, draft the board resolution, handle an interested director, file on time and hold your ground in the negotiation call.
- Compliance & Regulatory: A consumer app on launch day and a data incident by mid-morning: DPDP consent and breach duties, the CERT-In clock, a consumer complaint, dark patterns and a hearing before the Consumer Commission.
What you practise
- Deadlines: Compute limitation and statutory deadlines from the matter's own dates and the court's holiday list, the way a court would.
- Drafting: Draft notices, resolutions and memos in an in-browser Word editor, checked for structure and substance.
- Redlining: Mark up contracts and notices with tracked changes and comments; standard clauses you shouldn't touch count too.
- Research: Find authority in the firm's curated library. Cite something that isn't there, or that was overruled, and it costs you.
- Court: Answer the bench at a virtual mention: maintainability, limitation, relief, with the item number ready.
- Conduct: Conflicts, privilege and confidentiality: the day tests what you won't do as much as what you do.
Your day
- 09:30 · Allocation: The senior partner hands you the matter. First, the conflict check.
- Morning · Deadlines and the court: Work out what is time-barred and what is due, then appear at the court mention.
- Midday · Draft and redline: The core draft for your practice area, while the client calls with new facts.
- Afternoon · Research and the other side: Write the research memo; opposing counsel makes a move.
- 17:30 · Partner review: The partner reviews your day. At 18:30 your debrief and your ending open.
Levels
- Junior Associate: A checklist in the brief, a helpful librarian and fewer hidden issues.
- Associate: A normal busy day: fewer hints, more planted issues, a client who pushes back.
- Senior Associate: The full set of issues and conduct traps, tighter time and a partner who expects judgment, not a summary.
Scoring and debrief
- 60% is deterministic: deadlines, drafting and redline checks, citations verified against the library, the issues you found, and your decisions.
- 40% is judged: the quality of your drafting, your client communication, the hearing and the partner review, with the reasons written down.
- Conduct lapses (privilege, conflicts, misleading the court) are a separate, capped deduction, and can decide your ending.
- Every finished play keeps a permanent debrief: the timeline, the issues you caught or missed, the worked deadlines, your ending and a certificate.
Questions
How long does a play take?
The day runs from 09:30 to 18:30 game time, about three hours in real time. You can pause between sprints and come back within 45 days.
What do I get for one purchase?
Each practice area you own gives you two plays at each of the three levels: six plays, each with a freshly generated matter.
Can I add a practice area later?
Yes. You only pay the difference between what you own and the bigger bundle.
Can I play with others?
Yes. Each play lets you invite two colleagues, so a team of up to three works the matter together.
Is the law current?
The simulation uses the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (with the old IPC/CrPC/Evidence Act mapping), the Contract, Companies, Arbitration, IBC, DPDP and Consumer Protection Acts, the CPC and the Limitation Act, as of October 2026. It is a beta and not legal advice.
Is it included for universities?
Yes. Members of an organization whose Bartman bundle includes simulations can play every practice area without buying.
