- Scoring: No fixed pass mark: qualifying marks are set per paper each year; GATE score out of 1000 from normalised marks
- Question types: MCQ, 1 or 2 marks, one correct of 4 (a wrong answer costs 1/3 or 2/3 of a mark); MSQ, 1 or 2 marks, one or more correct of 4 (no partial credit, no negative marking); NAT: a signed number typed on a virtual keypad, accepted within a range (no negative marking)
